Sparkle is our classic biodegradable glitter, which we've been offering since 2016 and where we started. This product is developed by U.K. based Bio-glitter® who have been specialising in glitter and pigments since the late 80's. Sparkle is the first naturally degradable glitter to hit the world market and has been tested and proven to biodegrade 87% within just 28 days in the natural environment, by TÜV Austria, who are world leading in eco-friendly credentials and certifications. The product breaks down in even mild environments like fresh water and is also home compostable, when in contact with microbes and moisture. In hot and dry environments the breakdown process takes up to 6 months.
All EcoSparkles products are made from a plant based film, primarily from eucalyptus wood pulp. The trees used in this production are grown in European plantations under PEFC standards, which promises responsible forestry management, where no more trees are harvested than planted.
The bright and vibrant colours in our Sparkles collection come from cosmetic pigments, mainly vegetable and mineral dyes; there is no carmine involved in our products. The product contains <0.1% aluminium to create the shiny layer and is coated with styrene (8%) which is the only non biodegradable ingredient in our products.
Our Sparkles collection is 92% plastic free and proven to break down 90% within 6 months in all environments, except the North and South Pole, but who needs glitter there anyways?
Sparkle is fully vegan, which means no animal products and animal testing is involved in our production or ingredients.

Shimmer is the worlds first 100% plastic free and certified fully biodegradable (98% within 28 days) glitter. It landed on the market in 2019 and won prizes for the most innovative cosmetic product worldwide. Just like Sparkle the glitter is made from a eucalyptus-based plant film. But instead of containing styrene, the product is coated with shellac.
Just like Sparkle the colouring in these products comes from mainly minerals and as something new the aluminium was also removed from the products and replaced with mica.
Mica is a natural mineral that is well known from the cosmetics industry as this is what you see used in most shimmering makeups, body lotions, nail polishes etc. The mica used in EcoSparkles products originates from North America and is worked under high ethical standards to make sure workers are cared for and well paid for their work. It is also done under sustainable standards. Mica creates a much softer shine than aluminium and gives these products a soft pastel and pearlescent look. In our Shimmer collection you'll also find our iridescent collection of white glitter which shines in different colours when the light catches.
Shellac is an industrially treated resin. This resin is created by various East Asian tree species when they are inhabited by Lac beetles. The resin is harvested from the trees and cleaned, where after it is boiled and stirred with water, to create Lac-Dye. Shellac is a byproduct from this process and is widely used in the west in food products and as an example guitar coatings.
In our Shimmer products, shellac is replacing styrene as a coating, which is why this product is 100% plastic free. Please be aware that shellac is not considered vegan. But the products or ingredients are still not tested on animals.

EcoSparkles HOLO, it's finally here! In 2022 we finally welcome what must have been the most anticipated glitter product the world has ever seen. Ever since we started EcoSparkles we've been dreaming about the day we could adorn ourselves and our guests in holographic glitter. Holographic means that when the light hits the glitter, it refracts and shines back in rainbows - magic!
To create this effect the top layer of the product needs to be uneven, this is created by thousands of little perforations (invisible to the naked eye) in the surface of the product. Just like our other collections the core of this glitter is made from a eucalyptus-based film, a layer of <0.1% aluminium and a top layer mixed of shellac and styrene. In HOLO the content of styrene is <2.25%.
HOLO is tested and certified naturally biodegradable and home compostable by TÜV Austria, who are world know for their high standard testing, credentials and certifications of products. Our holographic product is proven to break down up to 95% in just 28 days in mild natural environments including fresh water.
We have 5 fully silver and holographic glitters in our collection, but also 8 unique EcoSparkles mixes which contain our other products, so some of our holographic mixes contain Sparkle, Shimmer or both as well.
EcoSparkles HOLO contains shellac and is therefore not vegan. (You can read more about shellac above, under Shimmer.) But just like the rest of our products nothing is tested on animals.

All our products also contain glycerin, which is a plant oil, in our case this oil is from rapeseed. We also do not supply EcoSparkles to any countries who require animal testing of products by law.
All our products are FDA approved to be used as cosmetics. We do not recommend that you use our super chunky glitter on top of eyelids or in the near eye area. Our Shimmer collection is the only collection which is approved to be used on lips and in lip products. For nail art we recommend that you only use our silver, holographic silver or any Shimmers, as the vibrant colouring in our Sparkle collection can bleed when in contact with chemicals. For any body products, body oils or soap making we recommend that you only use our 100% plastic free Shimmers.
When using the glitter on children, we don't recommend placing the glitter too close to the eyes, not because it is dangerous, but because small souls might get scared if they get glitter in their eyes. Should this happen, we recommend flushing with sterile water and carefully removing the glitter.
You will find that the glitter is much softer on the skin than conventional plastic glitter, actually up to 40%. This is because of the plant based film and thin coating, this means the glitter is soft to touch and comfortable to wear for many hours. We always recommend that you use our glitter glue when applying glitter to the skin. Our glue is water based and dermatologically tested, so is safe to use even on sensitive skin. It is also vegan.
